Notes From Our Director

Notes from our Director.

Recently, the staff had a two day retreat which was time well spent.  Traditionally, this retreat is dedicated to dreaming about the future.  This particular retreat we not only dreamed about “what if” questions, but we also continued to reassess some things we’re doing now.  For example, giving finals was something that was decided on this past year after receiving input from faculty and parents. After a lengthy discussion, we decided that this was a great decision; in fact, we have found we need to give more tests, not less, in order to help students prepare for the future.  We are working hard at not only just giving tests, but, more importantly, preparing students on how to take tests.  We will also begin giving school wide tests twice a year in order to better monitor their progress, which will help us better develop curriculum.  Two small things we decided on were students will now be required to take three science classes, rather than two.  This was an easy decision because it’s going to be required by the state in the near future.  We also have come up with a way of streamlining our awesome student led conferences so that students don’t miss quite so many days from school.  In addition to dreaming, we actually made some decisions with our feet firmly planted on the ground.  As always, if you have any questions or feedback on any of these ideas or others, you know where I work! Many thanks for your suggestions to help make us a better school.
