Thomas A. Edison has a long tradition of excellent instruction and student success. Our Middle School Summer Program puts the same proven practices to work. Our goal is to help middle school students with learning differences reach their full potential.

The middle school years are critical in determining high school success. Our reading, writing and math courses reinforce basic skills while encouraging the higher-order thinking demanded in high school. This helps LD students fill in the gaps in their fundamental school skills, and learn how to successfully meet new challenges.

Students enroll in two, 95-minute classes for a five-week session. Classes average eight students and are taught by certified teachers who have experience with alternative learners. A 20-minute break between classes gives students a chance to socialize, with snacks available for purchase.

All courses focus on a common theme, allowing students to make connections between classes, and to reinforce their learning. The session culminates in an all-school field trip-a further opportunity to make real-life connections.

Feedback from parents and students shows that our Middle School Summer Program consistently produces students who are happier and more successful entering their next school year.

Located in Portland, Oregon, Thomas A. Edison is a private high school dedicated to meeting the special education needs of Learning Disabled (LD) teens. Our students’ learning differences include Dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, Asperger’s Syndrome, Tourette’s Syndrome, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, Visual Perception and Nonverbal Learning Disorders.
