We believe that every student, particularly those with learning differences, deserves to feel safe and accepted. Thomas A. Edison High School encourages and expects students to practice kindness, respect and tolerance-for themselves as well as others.

We are committed to:

  • Ensuring a safe and caring atmosphere
  • Developing trusting, supportive relationships with students
  • Providing a mentoring/coaching (advocacy) system
  • Offering individual and group counseling with a focus on skill development

Every Edison student is a member of an Advisory group that meets daily. The primary purpose of the group is to build a supportive atmosphere in which students can work on transitional and social issues. Our female students also have the option to participate in Girls' Circle, which meets twice a month. The focus of Girls' Circle is to foster confidence and build social skills to encourage a collaborative atmosphere among the girls at our school.

Thomas A. Edison High School has three counselors on staff, including an art therapist, who are available to parents as well as students. Our teachers, counselors and director have an open door policy, and welcome hearing from our parents, and our students, at any time.

Located in Portland, Oregon, Thomas A. Edison is a private high school dedicated to meeting the special education needs of Learning Disabled (LD) teens. Our students’ learning differences include Dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, Asperger’s Syndrome, Tourette’s Syndrome, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, Visual Perception and Nonverbal Learning Disorders.
