School Board
The Thomas A. Edison School Board is comprised of dedicated individuals from a variety of backgrounds, who generously offer their knowledge, talents, and experience to the service of our school and our students.
Cynthia Arnold
Cynthia Arnold, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist who specializes in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of developmental differences. She and her husband cofounded New Leaves Clinic in 2005, where they work together. Their family includes two precious sons. Professionally, Cynthia's passion is helping students and adults find a path to reach their potential. On the Edison Board, she has chosen to work with the Transition Planning Committee, which assists students in making effective plans for the transition into life after high school.
Mark Brody
Mark serves on the Development and Strategic Planning Committees. The owner of a successful Internet hosting company, Mark is a former student of Thomas A. Edison High School, and an inspirational success story. As the co-founder of opus: interactive LLC, an Internet marketing agency, Mark brings a tremendous amount of experience and technological expertise to Edison.
Vonnie Condon
A retired public school educator, Vonnie is on the board's Strategic Planning Committee. She holds a Master's degree in speech pathology and special education. Prior to becoming an administrator in special education, Vonnie taught students with language and learning disabilities. She retired after serving 15 years as an elementary principal for Portland Public Schools.
Jim Francesconi
Jim serves on the Development Committee, and is a partner in the law firm of Haglund Kelley. A graduate of Stanford University, Jim ran a successful Portland law firm for 18 years. He was elected to the Portland City Council in 1997 and 2000, where he managed Portland Parks and Recreation, Department of Transportation, and Fire and Emergency Services. Jim is a co-founder of the Youth Employment Empowerment Coalition, and has served on the United Way Board and Oregon State Board of Higher Education.
Stacey Graham
Stacey is the EVP and Chief Strategy Officer for First Independent Bank.
Barbee Halbert
Barbee is a member of the Human Resource Committee. She graduated from Willamette University with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology. Barbee spent eight years volunteering in the Career Center at Beaverton High School. She has also served the community as a volunteer and board member for various schools and agencies, including Sexton Elementary School, the Cub Scouts and Booster Clubs.
Roger Krage
Roger chairs our Development Committee and brings valuable experience and expertise to our board. He also provides the unique perspective of being a current and past Thomas Edison parent. Roger is Principal and General Counsel with Gerding Edlen Development Company. He holds his law degree from Gonzaga University and a B.S. from Portland State University. Roger also serves on the boards of The Nature Conservancy of Oregon, Oregon Sports Authority, Boys and Girs Aid Society of Oregon and Alumni Advisory Committee of Jesuit High School
Patrick Maguire
Pat, our school director, received his B.A. in Education from the University of Arizona and his M.A. in Special Education from Portland State University. In addition to teaching at several other alternative schools in California and Oregon, Pat was a teacher and the Assistant Director at Thomas A. Edison High School for many years. He still enjoys getting back into the classroom and teaches our Government class. Experiencing the individual improvement and success of each student, academically as well as behaviorally, is one of the many rewards he cites in his work at Edison.
Sandra K. McDonough
Sandra is a member of the Development Committee. Her son Richard graduated from Edison in 2010. A Portland native, Sandra holds bachelor’s degrees in journalism and German from the University of Oregon. Sandra has served as President and CEO of the Portland Business Alliance, Greater Portland’s Chamber of Commerce, since August 1, 2004. Before joining the Alliance, Sandra worked in the energy industry for two decades, and she was a reporter for 10 years. In addition to serving on the board at Edison, Sandra currently serves on the boards of Associated Oregon Industries, the Oregon State Chamber of Commerce, Travel Portland, Leaders Roundtable, Pioneer Courthouse Square, Greenlight Greater Portland, and the University of Oregon Alumni Association and Business School Advisory Committee. She is a senior fellow of the American Leadership Forum/Oregon.
Hollis McMilan
Hollis chairs the Strategic Planning Committee. He earned his law degree from the University of Oregon School of Law and currently practices at Hollis K. McMilan, P.C. in Portland. His firm specializes in complex civil and criminal cases, as well as litigation management. Hollis is Chair of the State Professional Responsibility Board. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Corporate Counsel Section of the Oregon State Bar and co-editor of its newsletter, as well as the Judicial Screening Committee of the Multnomah Bar Association.
Greg Meenahan
Greg is a member of the Finance Committee. He has over 20 years of experience in nonprofit development and management, and is currently the Director of Development and Communications for the Volunteers of America, one of Oregon's largest social service nonprofits. In 2001, with support from a Meyer Memorial Trust capacity building grant, Greg became Edison's first full-time Development Director. Greg also serves on the Board of the Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center and is a past President of the Willamette Valley Development Officers.
David Pontious
Dave is the Assistant Director at Thomas A. Edison High School. He has an M.A. in English and an M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling with a specialization working with the deaf. Dave's teaching experience is varied and expansive, spanning four-year universities, community colleges and high schools. Recently, he taught reading and writing courses at Portland Community College. Dave's passion is helping Edison students transition into employment, vocational training or postsecondary education.
Matt Smith
Matt is the founder and president of Forensic Building Consultants.
Gary Stachlowski
Gary is the Treasurer and serves on the Finance Committee, putting three decades of experience as a CPA to good work. He is the managing director of PNW Tax Advisors LLC. Prior to establishing PNW in 2005, he worked at KPMG as a tax partner, where he was the head of the Portland Tax Practice. Gary earned his Bachelor's degree in Business from the University of Washington and a Master's in Taxation from Golden Gate University. His professional affiliations include Oregon Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. He is also on the board of Gift of Adoption Fund and the Mt. Angel Abbey Foundation.
Tom Taylor
Tom is the Chair of the Finance Committee, and has served two six-year terms as the board's Treasurer. As Senior Commercal Lender for First Republic Bank, Tom develops and manages a variety of business banking relationships in the Portland/Vancouver area. He received a B.S. in Business from Linfield College, an MBA from Portland State University and is a graduate of the Pacific Boast Banking School. He has also served on the March of Dimes Board, Tournament Gold Foundation and is past treasurer for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Sharon VanSickle-Robbins
Sharon is a member of the board's Development Committee. Prior to co-founding KVO Advertising and Public Relations in 1983, Sharon served as public relations director for Tektronix, Inc. and worked for Willamette Week. She currently operates a cut-flower business on Sauvie Island. Sharon has chaired the Portland metropolitan area's Regional Arts & Culture Council, is a member of the University of Portland's Board of Regents and is also a current board member of the Portland City Club.
Anne Voegtlin
Anne serves on the Human Resource Committee. She teaches middle school Language Arts and Social Studies in the West Linn/Wilsonville School District and recently completed a two-year program to become a reading specialist. Anne formerly worked as a reporter and editor for The Columbian newspaper in Vancouver, Washington. Anne has a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from the University of Oregon, a Master's in Journalism from University of Missouri and a Master's in Teaching from George Fox University. She is also the proud parent of a former Thomas A. Edison High School student.
Diane Wustrack
Diane is the Chairman of the Edison board. She brings years of experience in the field of education. Diane is a graduate of Stanford University and holds a Master's in Teaching. Diane's association with Edison started as a volunteer, and she became a firm believer in our program prior to joining the board in 2007. Diane currently serves on the Volunteers in Medicine Founders Clinic Board of Directors and Clackamas Community College Foundation. She is a past member of the Willamette Falls Hospital Foundation and West Linn/Wilsonville School Board.

Located in Portland, Oregon, Thomas A. Edison is a private high school dedicated to meeting the special education needs of Learning Disabled (LD) teens. Our students’ learning differences include Dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, Asperger’s Syndrome, Tourette’s Syndrome, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, Visual Perception and Nonverbal Learning Disorders.
