About Us

Our School

Thomas Alva Edison was dyslexic, a problem child, and a mischief-maker.  He talked when he was supposed to be listening and did not listen when the teacher talked.  He had no patience.  He was not well-coordinated and did poorly in sports. He applied himself with a passion to whatever caught his attention, but his attention was easily diverted.  He paid little heed to details.  Teachers thought him a problem child and a mischief maker.  School teachers finally suggested to his mother that she "... keep him in the streets for he would never make a scholar."

Not every child with learning problems will turn out to be an adult of such notable accomplishments as Thomas Edison, but the example of his achievements drives us to help our students reach their potential. Just as Edison transformed the way we live, Thomas A. Edison High School transforms the lives of our special young people.

Our Mission

Thomas Edison High School empowers students with learning differences to experience academic success and personal growth, while preparing them for the future.

We are the only private high school in Oregon specifically designed to meet the needs of students with complex learning disabilities and attention deficit disorder issues.  Though it's rare that one of our students' only learning challenge is ADD, we have found ADD to be a significant component in a diagnosis that could also include Dyslexia, Auditory Processing Disorders, Nonverbal Learning Disorders or Visual Perception Disorders.  No two students are exactly alike, so customized approaches to learning is our normal mode of operation.

Thomas Edison does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, religion, color, sexual orientation, or national and ethnic origin in the hiring of staff, administration of educational policies, student admissions, financial aid or other school-related programs.  Thomas A. Edison High School is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
